Green Walls

Green walls are the newest innovation in the greening of buildings and the attenuation of BREEAM points. A selection of various colours , shapes and sizes of plants are supported vertically by modern and innovative systems and nurtured by an advanced irrigation system which have to counteract the downward forces of gravity.

The two main types of green walls are:

Frame Panel1. FRAMEPANEL

Made from heavy gauge steel panels supported vertically by a wire lattice work system. Suitable for green wall noise barriers and screenings.

Flexipanel2. PREGROWN FLEXIPANEL

Grown in 500mm x 600mm panels pregrown at the nursery. Initially planted horizontally and raised periodically to more and more vertical positions to get the plants accustomed to and stable in a vertical position. The flexipanels are then fixed on site to the supporting structure ie the wall.

The plants grown in green wall structures need to be evergreen and relatively hardy with the ability to withstand short periods of drought and with a creeping or spreading habit.

Suitable plants include Hedera, Parthenocissus, Vinca, Hydrangea, Trachelospermum etc . An advanced irrigation system needs to be installed with the effects of gravity factored into the irrigation equation to allow for even irrigation over the whole vertical surface. See the accompanying diagrams and photos which show the make up of an intergrated green wall system.
